Tender point (trigger point) in the thigh successfully treated with local injection of cortisone then with pulsed radiofrequency
A 42 year old gentleman was found to have a specific tender point on the right medial part of the thigh at the top, which was believed to be a localised area of inflammation of tendon or local inflamed muscle.
He had had some benefit from non-steroidal anti-inflammatories but unfortunately, this was only short lived.
The gentleman was brought into the clinic and the area was injected with 1 ml of 0.5% Bupivacaine and 80 mg of Depo-Medrone. This gave him good relief for about 3 months. The procedure was then repeated and again he got good benefit for about 3 months.
The patient was very keen not to take any further medication but to find a more long term solution. He had pulsed radiofrequency applied locally to the area with 80 mg Depo-Medrone. He was seen 4 months later in the Pain Clinic and still was found to be having good pain relief. He was then discharged from the clinic.
