Case report of a patient with facet joint pain treated regularly with X-ray guided facet joint injections
I reviewed a 47 year old gentleman who has been a patient in the Pain Clinic for some years. Essentially, he has lower back pain eminating from his bilateral L3/4, L4/5 and L5/S1 facet joints.
This had been diagnosed over 5 years ago and was related to his work as a brick-layer. he had X-ray guided facet joint injections performed which he found to be particularly helpful. It also allowed him to stop taking his analgesic medication.
Because of the success of the blocks, he booked himself in to have the procedure performed every 4-5 months. Over time, his background pain has also slowly improved and there has been a gradual reduction in his overall usage of medication.
